Being a Board Member is an incredibly rewarding journey filled with opportunities to connect with diverse and fascinating individuals from across the country.  It’s not just about governance; it’s about building friendships, making connections with local advocacy and support communities, creating change, and having fun along the way.

How It Works:

Board Members complete interview rounds before final selection and appointment by our Board of Directors in January of each year, and we also welcome mid-year appointments to fill vacancies.  To be eligible, you need to complete a nomination application.  Board terms are 3 year placements.

At Pride Hamilton, we accept Board Member applications year-round.  The process may take several months, but it’s all part of our commitment to building a diverse and skilled board.  We value a wide range of expertise, from legal and financial to personnel management and governance skills.

  • Job Description

    • Volunteer Position (Not Paid)

    • Term: 3 Years

    General Description

    The Director of Finance manages the overall financial well-being of Pride Hamilton and ensures that all operations are conducted responsibly and within the financial means of the organization. This position holds signatory authority for Pride Hamilton.

    Tasks & Responsibilities

    • Work in collaboration with the rest of the Board to prepare the budget for the fiscal year and present it to the Board for approval

    • Maintain the financial records of Pride Hamilton using acceptable accounting practices

    • Prepare financial statements as necessary

    • Complete any required Canada Revenue Agency filings

    • Work in collaboration with the Chair and other individuals with signatory authority to receive and deposit revenues and donations

    • Issue all payments to vendors, service providers, performers, and other individuals who provide goods and services to Pride Hamilton

    • Provide support and financial advice to other Board members to ensure that all activities are consistent with Pride Hamilton’s budget and long-term objectives

    • Assist with the financial aspects, including preparing budgets, for any grant applications. In addition, liaising with contacts for these grants regarding timelines, the exchange of information, and other items as required

    • Manage the financial aspects of any events, including the collection of sales from merchandise and items sold, expense payments, and profitability

    • Prepare annual financial reports and present the report to the rest of the Board

    • Assist in the sourcing and appointment of an auditor to review the financial reports

    • Prepare and send all invoices for vendors and sponsors in order to facilitate payments to Pride Hamilton.

    Passionate individual(s) looking to create and uphold the standards of an inclusive Organization. This includes but is not limited to the Board of Directors but also events and interactions with the broader community. The equity-deserving groups to focus on, Youth, Rainbow Seniors, 2S/Indigenous, Black, People of Colour, People Living with Disabilities, Transgender, Non-Binary/Gender Diverse, Women, Bisexual, Sober and more. Candidates should have lived intersectional-identity experience.

    Tasks & Responsibilities

    • This role will help to ensure accessibility in the various forms are prioritized

    • Liaise with equity-deserving communities

    • Amplify voices of these various communities.

  • Job Description

    Tasks & Responsibilities

    • Source service providers for Pride Hamilton events, including obtaining quotes, for presentation and approval to the remainder of the Board

    • Liaise with individuals with signatory authority for Pride Hamilton to book service providers. In addition, with the Director of Finance, to ensure prompt payment of any required deposits

    • Act as the main point of contact on-site for all service providers for the duration of any Pride Hamilton events.
